Lectors proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word at mass.  They ought to be able to proclaim well, and have a love of the Bible.  We believe that Christ is present in the proclamation of the Scriptures - in the hearing of the Word.  The Liturgy of the Word prepares worshipers for the more intense encounter with the Lord in the Liturgy of the Eucharist.  

Commentators welcome the congregation, make announcements and give general instructions to the people.
